Grad Party

UPDATE: Value Village has some AWESOME costumes and accessories for those of you looking to dress up. Please head over to the location just off of Merivale and check it out.

Well this is going to be the new home to all things Grad party. Many of you visiting my little corner of the internet are probably here for the first time, and have been directed here by the back of your ticket or your information page, so I’ll skip my more standard extensive blathering and get right to why you’re here: more info!

The party itself will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, local branch 641, on Fallowfield between Greenbank and Woodroffe. Tickets are being sold for $5 each. The Legion will provide a cash bar, and we will be serving food in the Renaissance theme. After our little feast, there will be dancing. There will be a silent auction, with some items you won’t want to miss! We will have a 50-50 draw as well, along with door prizes. There will even be prizes for the best costume, best legs in tights, and the best Shakespearean quote recited from memory.

Due to the fact that I am a wonderful little history nerd, we decided to go with a Renaissance theme. This gives everyone a good chunk of time to deal with, as it ran from approximately 1200 to 1800 A.D. If you want to come in costume, feel free to dress up to any degree you want. For those of you who don’t want to come in full Renaissance dress, we will have masks and flower wreathes for your hair for sale at the door.

I will be in a full Elizabethan gown, and my mother will be dressed as my lady in waiting, to give you an idea of an era you can work with. On the top of the left hand column is a slideshow of photos that we took at the Renaissance Fair in Osgoode on July 10th, 2010. Underneath that is a list of movies, to give you an idea of what kind of outfits you can come in. I recommend that you check out the IMDB still pages, or just google them, so that you can get a better sense of what the costumes really look like without having to go out and rent the movie. Because this party is only a month and a half before Halloween, any outfit that you do make or purchase, you can use again for any and all Halloween parties.

Costumes are available for rent at Malabar's on Merivale Road, as well as any party supply place. Cody Party Nepean for example, becomes Monster Halloween in September, with locations on Merivale road and out in Kanata (1-866-330-5933 for more information). Most places will get costumes in through August or September, even stores such as Wal-Mart and Zellers will have a selection out.

There are still a few details to be worked out for some of the special surprises we have for our guests, but rest assured, you will enjoy them!

Tickets can be bought by cash or internet e-mail money transfer to lbrunkn618@rogers.com. As we have to know the number of people coming before the event, we will not be able to sell tickets at the door unless you tell us that you are coming beforehand.

And what about the money raised, you might ask. Well that goes towards making me a slightly less broke student. Roughly translated, that means that all of the profits will go towards paying down my student debt.

This is a fitting end to my four years of education. To tell the truth, this is the world that I have spent the past four years in, though I didn’t have the outfit. This is my way of sharing my world and my love of history with all of you. I’ve been living in this world for four years, I just want all of you there with me, even if it’s just for one night.

Love and hugs always
Lisa B.
